If you watch Jame’s Lipton’s “Inside the Actor’s Studio,” you know that he always digs up shit the actors would prefer we did not know. Usually, actors find it quite flattering that Lipton works so hard in the pre-interview process that he finds out things only they and thier close friends know. But when Lipton interviewed Angelina Jolie, I really felt like she took his diligence as an invasion. Not neccesarily of privacy, but an invasion of the crazy world she builds for herself to enable her to play the meat of each character she chooses.

When Lipton aked Jolie about the porn she put up in her trailer for her role in “Girl Interupted,” I’ll never forget the look on her face. You could feel her wall tightening. Her smiled widened and she only gave curt answers pretty much after that. I couldn’t believe she was reacting that way. When she was interviewed, I think this was the time she began dating Brad Pitt. The way Lipton juxtasposed her new relationship with John Voight’s relationship with his wife suggested that Jolie was repeating the same narcisistic mistake her father made when he left his wife for someone else. Jolie hated her father for that and Lipton invertedly poitned out that now Jolie was the other woman in a marriage. Perhaps Jolie already knows that. Perhaps she is too gaurded to understand the ramifications of what happened. Either way, I highly respect this woman and the humanity she brings to each and every character she plays.
